PROGRAM NOTE

I have been teaching creativity workshops for the past several summers for the Juilliard School/Nord Anglia Summer Arts Program in Geneva, Switzerland alongside some amazing vocal faculty. When asked by Dr. Lynnel Joy Jenkins if I had a work for middle school voices, I jumped at the chance to write one. As an educator, I have seen time and time again how a child’s future is really determined by how steadfastly they believe in and pursue their interests. Upon finding this Eleanor Roosevelt quote, I knew it would be the perfect text to capture the feeling of manifesting what you want your life to be like, and feeling gratitude for the magic that surrounds that process. The goal is for this work to be performed acappella, however it can also be performed alongside a string quartet or piano for support. The premiere was lead by Dr. Jenkins on July 19th, 2019.
