PROGRAM NOTE

I have a deep affinity for all things brass and all things groovy, so it was great to be able to combine these two loves in this piece for the Metropolitan Horn Authority. After a preliminary search for all of the special sounds possible on the french horn, I stumbled upon the “rip” and I immediately knew what sounds I wanted this piece to culminate with. I also enjoyed playing around with pitch bends and using mutes to make a group of horns sound like a wacky accordion.
